Self Tanning vs. Sun Tanning
Please remember that a self tanning application is not the same as the sun, as a result you, cannot expect the exact results you get from a suntan. Self tanning is the next best thing to achieving the same “look” you receive from the sun, but it is actually much better than the sun because it doesn’t have the harmful effects the sun has on your skin. The product we use has been rated #1 over many years & has come the closest to any tanning product to looking like a real suntan. Everyone’s skin is different and everyone will get different results from self tanning. If you haven’t exfoliated, or if you have lotions or perfumes on, this will affect your tan and can cause your tan to become uneven. If you get into a pool with chlorine or get into the ocean, it will affect your tan as well. We recommend staying away from both of these after your tanning application for maximum results. Follow the simple steps before & after to achieve & maintain your healthy bronzed glow for as long as possible.
Helpful Hints Before You Tan:
• Please shave/wax the day before your tanning appointment. Shaving the day of could cause open pores to become saturated with the tanning solution resulting in tiny brown dots.
• Exfoliate your skin the day before your tanning appointment. Removing these dead skin cells will help you have a natural even tan, and maintain your self-tan for a longer length of time.
• It is very important that you refrain from using make-up, lotions, perfumes and deodorants prior to your tanning appointment or remove them before your appointment as these act as barriers to the tanning solution. However it is a good idea to lightly lotion the “extra dry areas” : palms, ankles, elbows & knees.
• Please wear either a dark colored bikini or undergarments.
• After tanner application we recommend that you wear loose dark colored clothing as the initial bronzer tends to rub off on light colored clothing. We also suggest wearing flip-flops. We ask that you do not bathe, shower, swim or get wet for at least 8-10 hours after your tanning appointment as this will cause the tanning solution/bronzer to wash off leaving you with streaks and an uneven tan.
Maintenance
• Wear loose dark colored clothing after your tan. Please allow at least 10-15 minutes to dry before getting dressed.
• Do not shower/bathe/swim or get wet for at least 8-10 hours as this can remove some of the tanning solution before it has had a chance to fully develop causing streaks.
• The first night, it is best to wear dark colored pajamas or dark loose clothing in order to prevent disturbing your tan from fully developing and also to protect your sheets . {Satin or Silk clothing & sheets have been known to stain. Try to avoid these the first night} If you have to get in your car before the bronzer is completely dry, we recommend laying a towel on your seat to sit on.
• When you do shower after your tan, you will notice some brown tint in the water. Don’t panic! J This is just the dye in the bronzer washing off revealing your tanned skin underneath. The bronzer is just a color guide to ensure even application by your technician as well as a sealant for your base tan. You may accidentally rub up against something the day you get your tan and the bronzer may smear it is okay, it will blend in when you take a shower. It will take roughly 8-10 hours for your sunless tan to activate revealing your bronzed glow.
• Avoid soaking in the bath as this encourages the sloughing off of dead skin cells which will increase the fading of your tan. It is best to take quick showers without scrubbing.
• Avoid swimming pools as chlorine will increase the fading of the tan.
• *Moisturize* Moisturize* Moisturize!
• Every day, at least twice a day, in order to keep your skin and tan in the finest condition.
• We will send you with a “just in case” amount of St. Tropez self tanner for any unforeseen touch-ups that you may need to address.
